Online & offline with one client in SAP – a totally new experience!

The new concept enables the user to work both online and offline. And the best thing about it: The user works within the same GUI and can simply carry on working if the connection is lost (e.g. while travelling on a train). 

The client will automatically switch to offline mode, you can continue working with all the data and when the connection is re-established, synchronisation with the leading SAP system will take place automatically.

 

Delimitation with respect to SAP Netweaver Business Client

The SAP NWBC is aimed at professional users. It is based on the runtime environment Netweaver and uses web dynpros. But this also means that an application must always have access to the central online backend SAP ERP. It therefore does not offer offline capability. In addition, the traditional transactional approach is being retained, which means that users from in-house admin sections get on well with it, but for users in Marketing and Field Sales or service engineers and production staff the software remains cumbersome due to that transactional bias. However, usability has improved through the Power Lists and also by virtue of the fact that web dynpros can be run in addition to the normal SAP GUI transactions.

 

The two concepts have several things in common:

Both business clients no longer use a proprietary protocol but HTTP and exchange HTML and XML contents with the server. Both clients are based on development models according to the Model View Controller principle and serve to construct application frontends with flexible architecture and a high level of user-friendliness.
